PURPOSE

The Mental Health Awareness Foundation of Canada (MHAFOC) exists to serve two main purposes. The first is to create continued awareness about mental health issues. The second is to fundraise.

Our first purpose involves the active and sustained engagement of raising awareness about issues affecting people with mental health issues. Through Social media campaigns, the distribution of brochures, talks at local high schools/universities, and door-to-door fundraising campaigns we aim to increase awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Our second purpose involves fundraising to fund the awareness initiatives. The remainder of our funds are donated to registered charities that support mental health programs and mental illness research. For Example, Two of the organizations that generally receive most of the funds we raise are the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation (CAMH) and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

Share Your Story

We encourage people living with mental illness, or relatives of someone experiencing mental illness to share their story. Our hope is to create a supportive place for people to realize that they are not suffering alone, that there is no shame in getting help and that there is hope. One of the ways we plan on combating the stigma associated with mental illness is by showing how common it is for people to experience mental health issues. Email us to be featured in our blog.
